EVERYDAY ETERNAL: Help from afar.. an unusual family

When you least expect it... a call, a text, an instant message comes in and reminds you its not in vain. In just two days I have received a word of encouragement and a offer of help from very distant and distinct places. A word of encouragement from Morocco and an offer of help from Colorado. Mind you, I am in Puerto Rico, a small island in the Caribbean.

We can thank technology and social networking for this incredible event, which now has become an everyday thing. However, it was the ORIGINAL social networking that made this possible. For, both of these wonderful young ladies were part of my life and ministry MANY years ago, when I was a youth minister. To make it even funnier - they are sisters (and have no idea they both contacted me in the span of two days)... to make it even more interesting the eldest of these sisters ended up stepping up to leadership once I moved to another area of ministry (the greatest and best achievment in ministry is to be succeeded by one of your own disciples). The other sister went on to marry the minister that in turn took over the ministry of the first sister. This is a web of friends/sisters/ministers that not even Facebook could keep up with. Before there was Myspace, Facebook or the recent Google thing...there was church. A place where random (in every sense) people joined with a common purpose and name to later become a strange and improbable family.

It is in that house, called church, that a life in Puerto Rico, Colorado and Morocco intertwined into family that now encourages, supports, rejoices and cries together inspite of the oceans/deserts/mountains and continents that stand between us.

So many people say that church is an archaic and useless entity... it's time came and went... I beg to disagree! If there was ever a time when people needed family, true social networking, and a common cause and name, it is now. I thank God for Church...the good, the bad and the ugly... after all isn't that what family is all about!

Thanks Vivian and Liza :) for helping me see THE ETERNAL in EVERYDAY things....Everyday Eternal!
